German language Definition
(from
Wikipedia)
'German' ( ) is a West Germanic language related to and classified alongside
English and Dutch. With an estimated 90
– 98
million
native speakers, German is one of the world's
major languages and is the most widely-spoken first language in the European
Union.
Most German vocabulary is derived from the Germanic branch of the Indo-European
language family.
Significant
minorities of words are derived from Latin and Greek, with a smaller amount from
French and English.
German is written using the Latin alphabet. In addition to the 26 standard
letters, German has three vowels with umlauts (Ä/ä, Ö/ö, and Ü/ü) and the
letter ß.

Open Question: I failed my Spanish 1 class?
Today I found out that I failed my Spanish 1 class for the semester. I used to get A's in the first semester, but we had to switch to a new teacher and then I was absent for a few weeks, basically I couldn't keep up with being gone for so long and the teacher was so confusing. At my high school, it's required to take two years of a foreign language to graduate, so I know I'll need to retake the class. Some questions:
1. Will this affect my promotion to tenth grade? I've gotten mostly B's in other classes, so I'm wondering if failing this class will affect this.
2. Should I retake Spanish 1, or try another language? My high school also teaches French, German, and Sign Language.
3. Will failing this class affect me later, like during graduation or trying to get into college? My school requires 26 credits to pass when there are 28 available, so I think I'm safe for that, but how will this look on my college transcript?
Summer school is not an option. My parents planned trips out of the state during the two summer school sessions, plus it's too late to apply.
Open Question: which language should I learn?
I am an English speaker, and I know a lot of Tagalog (because of my background).
I'm really interested in languages like German, Danish, Irish, Scottish, and ones that are spoken in all of Europe. I'm having trouble deciding which language I should learn. I'm looking for a language that has a really good country and nice people. And also, for the language you suggest, how long would it take to master the language?
Open Question: Interested in learning multiple languages, any tips?
So, I want to learn the following languages, in order of priority:
French
German
Japanese
Swedish
Russian
Korean
...
Yeah, that's a lot of languages.
Anyway, my mother tongue is American English, I'm fifteen, I live in the USA, I have all my life, I have no family that speaks any foreign languages, and I don't have the money for any sort of programs or anything. My school only offers French -- which I'm taking next year.
I have a few internet friends who speak various languages, but that most likely isn't going to help with pronunciation... and you know, the fact that half of those have an entirely different alphabet.
So, does anyone have any tips as to how I learn six different languages at least semi-fluently? Any tips on a specific language helps, too, whether it's just a website for languages or whatnot.
Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.
Open Question: Which foreign language should i take: French, German or Spanish?
I am registering for the next semester in college and not sure which one to chose?
They also got Japanese, Italian, Russian and Mandarin (not sure if i'll need any of these)
Just curious what the good Y!A folk thinks i should take..
I am double majoring in Business and Economics, if that helps
Open Question: RAF Pilot Questions, and Self-assessment (would like feedback please)?
I have wanted to join the RAF for some time now, it wasn't long ago I decided, really (2-3 months). It's a long story, but I've made up my mind now. I've not seen anything like this before.
Please don't take this as me being cocky or big-headed in my self assessment, but here are the facts:
Academic ability - High - A* - B grades predicted for GCSE, apart from Welsh 2nd Lang + Lit and R.E.
Studying 12 GCSEs and have a level 2 NVQ in Spanish. (I have the highest portfolio in Wales for NVQ and was the first in my class, and also my county to do GCSE coursework).
Doing my External? Outer? exams(Don't know the English term)
A - Levels taken are: French, Physics, Maths, Biology + Welsh Bac
Might be doing Spanish at home, and a COPE AS level with college
DofE - I have Bronze, wish to work on Silver and Gold
Aiming to do Triple Language Hons at Uni, all to Major (French/German/Spanish)
Physical ability - Borderline acceptable, I'm fit, Ju-jitsu 2 times a week, 1.600ft, 1.5 mile mountain/hill once a week (When I can). Can do the push ups/sit ups required, jog/run needs training. so do other aspects . I am not the fittest person out there, but I'm fit enough maybe, and will be working on it.
Leadership Skills - I listen to others, I combine other's ideas with my own ideas to develop a strategy. Can be told I'm wrong and I will step down to someone better than me, but I'm usually a strong leader. Many years of solving disputes has helped too.
My medical is 99% fine. No allergies, no asthma, no conditions, no nothing. My weakness is below.
I'm confident but not cocky, and mature. I'm good at indoor and outdoor activities.
I play guitar and am good at music.
I love martial arts, and have developed good reflexes and a good ability for Ju-jitsu, I'd do almost any martial art.
I'm fairly likeable.
I'm atleast good at most outdoor activities I've tried.
Good at shooting, very good shot apparently
Good at hunting and good with animals
Good at climbing
Bad bad bad at football.
I'm not good at everything and I don't pretend to be, but I do try my best, and achieve my goals in that area.
I'm not naturally gifted with my hands at all. I'm no good with tools, got bad marks in D.T in school, but lately I'm improving - my dad is teaching me a lot, we're building a motorbike.
My flaws - Naturally underweight, don't say eat more, it doesn't work like that. I'm fit though, not the best, not the worst. I'm not the strongest but I try my best.
My eyesight - Short-sighted, -1.75 diopters, and it seems to be stabilising now though, I found out here: http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafcollegecranwell/selection/faqs.cfm
that laser eye surgery is now acceptable with some conditions.
My questions are:
How seriously is BMI taken? If I have minimum BMI, will it affect my application?
How seriously is Laser eye surgery taken? Will it affect my application i.e Natural eyesight is a priority to the RAF?
Could someone give me a detailed description on the application process. I have to be 22 to apply (because of my eyesight) how long do I wait and what do I do in the meantime and how will I be contacted?
What learning opportunities are there, I have seen language classes, does this take me all the way up to fluency, and what are the "Hons/Masters Degrees" Pilots can gain from this?
Can I apply to a different role if I get rejected as a Pilot, or can I try again even?
I've been to a Careers Office, it was an Engineering Officer running the place, he had knowledge in some areas (medical) but helped me with all other areas.
I have done A LOT of online research too, still can't find decent answers.
My last question is, assessing all of this, what do you think my chances are? I don't mind criticism so go for it, so long as it has reason and isn't just attacking me, go for it.
I'd like advice too on what to improve, and anything else you can throw in, thanks :)
